Agustin Marchesin
(Lanús)
Age: 22
At the moment, it’s safe to say, there aren’t any great Argentinian goalkeepers about. Sergio Romero has been doing a job with the national team, but there are no guarantees he’ll still be between the sticks at the next World Cup in Brazil. Therefore, any talent coming through in the goalkeeping position is bound to attract new Argentina coach Sergio Batista’s attention. Lanús’ young shot-stopper, Agustin Marchesin wouldn’t be crazy to think he is in with a chance of nicking Romero’s job in the near future. He has all the attributes needed to be a very good number 1. He’s tall (1.87m), and pounces about the box with the agility and reflexes of a cat. He’s already regarded as a fine penalty stopper, and the strength of personality he shows at a young age indicates he will be lording over opposition attackers for years to come. Remember the name.
